-
Description
-
An article about Congresswoman Barbara Jordan in Texas Monthly magazine, covering her work as a Democratic Representative from Texas. Shapiro writes that Jordan has "skillfully managed to bridge the gulf" between electoral and legislative politics. Although Jack Brooks provided Walter Shapiro with a statement for this article about Jordan [camh-dob-001214], Shapiro did not quote Brooks's statement in his article. Brooks is mentioned in the article in reference to the Nixon impeachment proceedings: "Judiciary chairman Peter Rodino, carefully working his way through the impeachment proceedings, came to rely increasingly on two Texas congressmen for political advice: Jack Brooks, because he was highly partisan, and Barbara Jordan, because she wasn't." Shapiro also writes, "When crusty Beaumont Congressman Jack Brooks, variously described as the meanest and/or the crudest man in Congress, starts telling locker room stories at Judiciary sessions, Barbara Jordan laughs appreciatively along with the men."
