Description

Raw footage of the port of Houston, with shots of workers loading cotton and lumber onto ships, ships with flags, and aerial views of plants along the port [also used in e_bb_5268]. Also has shots of people playing golf, an aerial view of downtown Houston and the San Jacinto Monument. Color picture with no sound. From the creator's original order, some footage is backwards and upside-down. Bad splices caused film projector to lose loop during capture. Cinecap software processing did not completely eliminate pulldown effects.

Description from can label: "'50's bank bldg. cu [close-up] 'McCarthy' headlines, neg trk. nite shot time/temp sign, inside bank." Exterior and interior shots of Houston's Second National Bank, with title cards for Second National All-Star Theater and a separate section of narration. Appears to be rough footage spliced together hastily, as evidenced by sections not matching in vertical orientation or direction. Consequently, some sections appear backwards or upside down in relation to others. Black and white picture with separate sound (sound and picture are not together). Multiple punch holes for synchronization.

Produced film consisting of motion pictures interspersed with title cards narrating and explaining the process of drilling for oil using the rotary system. Title cards suggest that the film takes place in the Goose Creek oil field of Harris County, Texas. Black and white negative picture, no sound. Writing on leader reads: "Begin #1, 'Oil Well', Humble Oil." Camera shakiness during title cards and sprocket holes printed on film indicate that this film may be copied from an earlier print.
