Description
-
A house in south San Angelo, Texas, in which live two adults and seven children. Since purchasing this house for $1175 in April of 1949 they have installed electricity and running water. They use an outdoor open pit privy and cook with kerosene. Enough lumber is now stored in the yard to about double the size of the house. The family also owns another house in a low section of town where they were flooded during rainy weather. They plan to keep this house because it has a good garden, fruit trees and chicken yard. They purchased the lot on which it stands for $175 about five years ago and built their own house. The father works for the Western States Utility company in the water pumping station. One daughter is married and lives away from home; the oldest son (not shown in the pictures) also works. Possessions noted around the house include good bedroom furniture; good bedding, a sewing machine, electric washing machine, new bicycle and tricycle and a nine year old automobile. Three of the children are of school age but attendance seemed to be haphazard. San Angelo, Texas.
