Show moreSide A of interview with ?, founder of Michigan garage band the Mysterians. Talks about origins of the band, possibly being the first Mexican American rock band, the making of their hit "96 Tears," his thoughts on being labelled a garage band and the distribution of their first LP. Sound on original recording begins speeding up to the point of unintelligibility about halfway through the tape, likely from low batteries on original recording. Pub version attempts to correct this, but much of this side remains unintelligible.

Show moreSide B of interview with ?, founder of Michigan garage band the Mysterians. Talks about the earliest origins of "96 Tears", working with manager Lilly Gonzalez, lack of promotion by record company, availability of master recordings, band reunion, changing name to "?" and working on writing a book titled, "Are You For Real?". Short section (less than two seconds) could not be recorded at the beginning of the tape due to malfunctioning cassette flanges. This could probably be corrected by rehousing the cassette in a new shell.

Show moreSide A of interview with Roky Erickson of the 13th Floor Elevators, along with friends or band mates identified by first names Terry, Danny and Casey. Erickson is evasive throughout, eventually passing off the bulk of the interview to Terry. Covers how Erickson got involved in music, influences, early band The Spades, meeting Tommy Hall, forming the 13th Floor Elevators, early practice spaces, venues they played at and studio sessions. Vorda also asks questions about the sound, songwriting and imagery of songs on "The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators" and asks about Roky's influence on Janis Joplin, confirming that she was almost a member of the band. Powell St. John is also mentioned. Digitized from Memorex dBS 120-minute cassette played on Sony TC-WE475.

Show moreSide B of interview with Roky Erickson of the 13th Floor Elevators, along with friends or band mates identified by first names Terry, Danny and Casey. On this side of the tape, Erickson answers almost none of the questions, explaining (around 13:30) that some of the topics are scary to him. Most questions are answered by Terry and Danny. Vorda asks in-depth questions about individual songs from "The Psychedelic Sounds of the 13th Floor Elevators." Also covers changes in band personnel, updates on band members, the death of Stacy Sutherland, sound quality on early recordings, album cover artist John Cleveland and mentions of the bands Jefferson Airplane, Josefus, Fever Tree and The Doors. Digitized from Memorex dBS 120-minute cassette played on Sony TC-WE475.
