-
Description
-
Jack Brooks and Representative Laurence Curtis ask their colleagues to support a proposed amendment to eliminate provisions to a patent extension bill. The provisions would allow patents to extend beyond 17 years in instances in which patent owners were effected by World War II and the Korean War. Both congressmen were veterans of World War II. Brooks, a Democrat, had served in the U.S. Marine Corps during the war. Curtis, a Republican, was a Navy veteran who had lost his leg in an aviation training crash. They explain that the provision would unfairly favor patent holders above others and cause unnecessary administrative expenses to the Patent Office.
