Since receiving her Ph.D. from the University of Maryland, Dr. Barbara Hines has spent her career training and educating journalists from all over the world as to the importance of journalism and how to do it well. She has taught students in high school and college as well as professionals from over four states and ten countries. Hines has served as assistant dean at the University of Maryland College of Journalism, president of AEJMC, was named the Outstanding Woman in Journalism and Mass Communication and the Public Relations Society of America’s Outstanding Educator, and was founding executive director of the Maryland Scholastic Press Advisers Association.

Since attaining his MA and EdD from the University of Southern California, Dr. Clint Wilson had a long and accomplished career both in the classroom and administrative positions, most recently at Howard University. He has authored or co-authored several books including A History of the Black Press, a book that Journalism and Mass Communication Quarterly listed as one of the 35 “most significant books of the 20th century”. His scholarship and work with diversity has earned him recognition from numerous organizations including the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communications (Lionel Barrow Award for Distinguished Achievement in Diversity Research and Education), the Society of Professional Journalists (Sigma Delta Chi Award for Excellence in Journalism Research), and the University of Missouri (Honor Medalist for Distinguished Service in Journalism).

Federico Subervi, Ph.D., is a researcher and scholar on Latino media and audiences teaching both nationally and internationally. He is the author more than 25 book chapters, 20 journal articles and 15 independent reports. Subervi is an active member of the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, serves on the Task Force on AEJMC in the Global Century, and previously chaired the Task Force on Latino/Latin American Outreach, the Minorities and Communication Division and the Commission on the Status of Minorities. He serves as Vice-Chair of the Ethnicity, Race in the Media Division of the International Communication Association.

Dr. Félix Gutiérrez is a Professor of Journalism & Communication and American Studies & Ethnicity at the University of Southern California.He is the 2011 recipient of the Lionel C. Barrow Jr. Award for Distinguished Achievement in Diversity Research and Education from the Association for Education in Journalism and Mass Communication, 2004 recipient of the Sigma Delta Chi Award for Excellence in Research About Journalism from the Society of Professional Journalists, and the 1996 Gustavus Myers Award as Outstanding Book on Human Rights in North America. Gutiérrez is a former Senior Vice President of the Freedom Forum and the Newseum as well as the first Executive Director of the California Chicano News Media Association from 1978 through 1980.

Gene Burd has practiced journalism for over 50 years. He has written for numerous publications including, Kansas City Star, Albuquerque Journal, Houston Chronicle, Three Rivers, and Michigan Commercial. He taught at the University of Texas at Austin for over 40 years, and previously at the University of Minnesota and Marquette University. He was also chair of three different divisions in AEJMC over a 24-year period.

Jannette Dates is an educator and commentator on the images of African Americans in the media. She obtained her B.S. from Coppin State University, an M.Ed. from John Hopkins University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland at College Park. She is known for addressing issues of the media treatment of African Americans and other racial and ethnic groups. She has contributed chapters for thirteen books, and has written three scholarly articles and been published several times. She has served as the dean of the School of Communication at Howard University and on the board for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

Laurence G. O'Donnell has been a lifelong journalist holding such positions as reporter, bureau chief, assistant managing editor, and eventually managing editor of the Wall Street Journal in New York. In 1983 he was named associate editor of the Journal, responsible for recruitment. Eight years later he retired and became president of the Board for the Dow Jones News Fund. Throughout his career, diversity was an important part of his work.
