-
Description
-
Joseph Califano was a former aid to President Lyndon Johnson and powerful Washington lawyer. His speech, titled "On the Impeachable Offenses of Richard Nixon." Califano disimisses the argument that Nixon was simply misled by his advisors. "Reasonable men," Califono said, "may doubt [Nixon's] advance involvement in the DNC Watergate bugging and burglary; they must recognize that he would have been unworthy of his political success if he were not deeply involved in everything that folllowed the capture of the burglars on June 17, 1972." He also lays out a constitutional and statutory basis for impeaching the president.
