Cynthia Valadez describes her family background and early activism in high school in Mission, Texas and then in Dallas, Texas leading up to the start of her student activism at the University of Texas at Austin in 1973. She discusses her part in the Chicano Movement in Austin, Texas through her activism as a student in organizations such as the Mexican American Youth Organization and La Raza Unida party. Cynthia Valadez also shares her personal connection as a student to the local East Austin community and the impact this had on her views of community issues as well as eliminating boundaries between campus and community.
