Photo spread from Photo Memo No. 2, June 1946, featuring 3 photos (of 10 total) by Gordon Parks on pages 4 and 5. Text reads: "The vast establishment of the oil industry is first of all functional. Much of it is also beautiful. The intricate mechanisms which get crude from the earth, ship it where it is needed and transform it into hundreds of products on which our economy depends, often make fascinating patterns. A sampling of photographs showing the sweeping lines, the striking symmetry, and the intriguing designs of oil, appear on these pages."

Photo spread entitled "Faces," from Photo Memo No. 3, January 1947, featuring 2 photos (of 12 total) by Gordon Parks on pages 6 and 7. Text reads: "Oil is people. No document of any phase of the oil industry is complete without a roll call of the men and women who plan, guide, ad execute its countless operations. Their pictures abound in our photo file. Here the ’roughneck,’ the lab worker, the rigger, and the map maker are shown in revealing studies on and off the job. Here may be found local color in beards in the far north, adventure in the route of a river pilot, heroism in the rounds of a field nurse who averages 100 miles a day of solitary driving. Behind every portrait is a story of a personality in relation to a many-sided industry, and the candid studies on these pages are but a sampling of the human interest material in our photographic files."
