Jannette Dates is an educator and commentator on the images of African Americans in the media. She obtained her B.S. from Coppin State University, an M.Ed. from John Hopkins University, and a Ph.D. from the University of Maryland at College Park. She is known for addressing issues of the media treatment of African Americans and other racial and ethnic groups. She has contributed chapters for thirteen books, and has written three scholarly articles and been published several times. She has served as the dean of the School of Communication at Howard University and on the board for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.
