The Jack Brooks Digital Legacy Project is a scholarly resource containing items selected from the personal, campaign, and congressional papers of Jack Brooks, permanently housed at the Dolph Briscoe Center for American History at UT Austin. The Jack Brooks Digital Legacy Project represents only a fraction of the materials contained in the source collection, but the arrangement and metadata of the digital items presented here are fully consistent with the arrangement and citation data of the original sources.
Congressman Jack Brooks represented the Beaumont region for forty-two years, a period that spanned ten presidential administrations from Dwight Eisenhower to Bill Clinton. Brooks was a key legislative decision maker during the Cold War, the space race, the Watergate scandal, and the Iran-Contra affair. His career ended with the 1994 midterm elections and rise of the New Right. The Jack Brooks Digital Legacy Project staff have selected and digitized manuscripts, audiovisual materials, and photographs reflecting his long congressional career as well as contextual essays and instructional materials.
